Clos des Rocs Monopole 2003 - £12.29Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.Top-notch white Burgundy is ''the classic dry white for entertaining'' (Jancis Robinson MW) and Clos des Rocs comes with our highest recommendation from a unique plot of family-owned vines - a mature, Gold-medal treat for special occasions. Pouilly Loche is a tiny 28 hectares on some of the best terroir of the Maconnais. Within that, the Clos des Rocs is a walled vineyard close to the landmark Roche du Solutre and wholly-owned by the Bricage family. The 65 year-old Chardonnay vines produce top quality grapes, deftly crafted into this excellent wine by the multi medal-winning, 28 year-old young gun guru winemaker Olivier Giroux. Having spent 12 months in oak barrels, this dense, fruit-rich wine has taken on a vanilla oak-infused complexity that makes it such a mouth-filling delight. Serve with poussin, blanquette de veau, grilled swordfish or creamy pasta dishes.
Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc 2007 - £12.29Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.Shaw & Smith began over a long lunch in 1989 when cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith decided to realize a long held dream to make wine together. Both were already familiar faces in the wine industry (Martin Shaw was Australia's first Master of Wine!) and knew exactly how they wanted to produce their magnificent wine. It's no surprise then that Shaw and Smith chose the cool climate Adelaide Hills to make their superb, whistle-clean Sauvignon Blanc. Renowned Aussie wine expert James Halliday called this region ''the best in the country for Sauvignon Blanc'' and awarded Shaw and Smith an impressive 95 points for their terrific white. Bright and intense with plenty of ripe, zesty fruit flavours. Serve nicely chilled alongside scallops or a crisp summer salad.

Ripe citrus and pineapple with a deliciously crisp finish. Gorgeous aperitif and a steal at this price.
Cape Mentelle Semillon Sauvignon 2007 - £12.29Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.Based in Margaret River - ''producer of some of Australia's finest wines'' (The Times) - Cape Mentelle is Cloudy Bay's Aussie project. This citrus-charged white is their take on the classic Semillon/Sauvignon Bordeaux blend - and proves to be just as good as it's famous sibling. Light and refreshing with bags of citrus-charged character, it's no wonder Aussie wine-guru James Halliday called this ''Consistently one of the outstanding examples of its style''. Devastatingly good both on its own or with seafood.
