What does the activity include?
First thing in the morning, we will visit the local deer park and watch a deer being humanely culled and field dressed. You will see examples of all the species found in the UK and learn why they each taste so different. We will then return to the school where we will skin, joint and butcher the carcass down to cuts of meat that will be more recognisable to you. You will then help to cook several recipes with our carcass, including Mike's famous venison paves. Once all the cooking is over you will be able to eat and enjoy all the delectable food you have prepared. This is field to table cooking in the truest sense.
Please note, that of the UK species there are always at least one in season and the deer park has the right to cull as and when they need to, so be assured we can legally run this course all through the year. This course is not for the faint hearted.

What should I wear?
We recommend you wear outdoor clothing for visiting the deer park including Wellington boots and waterproofs if necessary. Whilst in the kitchen casual clothing with comfortable shoes are recommended.

How long should I allow for this experience?
Please allow approximately 7 ½ hours for the whole experience. The actual time spent participating is approximately 6 hours.

When does the activity take place?
Courses usually operate on Fridays or Saturdays bi-monthly subject to availability.
Courses usually start at 8.30am and finish at approximately 4.00pm, kindly note these times are subject to change therefore we ask that you check the times with the supplier when booking.

We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available before the expiry date listed on the voucher. This is only a guideline and we advise you book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. You must book and take your experience before the expiry date. All bookings are subject to availability..

Are there any restrictions?
Although there is no minimum age restriction, under 18’s must be accompanied by a full paying adult. You should be able to stand/walk for a long period of time whilst in the deer park, however should you require a tall stool whilst in the kitchen then please request this when booking a date for your experience.

What about the weather?
The weather will not affect this experience and you will still visit the deer park even in wet weather, therefore we recommend you bring waterproofs just in case.

Can I bring spectators?
Sorry, all guests must hold a valid voucher for the experience.

What else do I need to know?
Kindly note that once a date has been booked it cannot be changed or cancelled. Unfortunately there is no disabled access at the deer park. Soft drinks and wine are included on the day. The nearest train station is Pangbourne. Each participant will also receive a free handout with recipes from the day. Your voucher is valid for nine months from the date of issue. Personal accident & cancellation insurance are included.
