Game Overview
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 is based on a true story; you play the part of Sgt. Matt Baker who is a member of the 101st Airborne Division. It is your mission to parachute behind enemy lines and over the space of one week or 17 chapters you have to fight your way into the town of Carentan and capture it. Beating each mission gives you rewards of hidden extras such as photographs and reconnaissance photo's, these pictures portray to you how close the game is to real life and show you what Sgt. Matt Baker's platoon had to fight through in the invasion.
So as you can see it is a very correct and very detailed game, Ubisoft have gone about things trying to show you just what the War was like, however no games company will ever get to what it was really like, it's ok going about killing German after German but real life would be a little bit different!
The graphics on the Playstation version don't quite seem to be up there with the quality of the graphics on Xbox or PC but some levels are quite dark anyway so to be honest it is quite hard to spot the differences sometimes, the sound effects don't really replicate the effects of real life either and to be honest they were a little bit of a let down.
Unlike a lot of other WWII shooters, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 is extremely easy to get the hang of, there is no farting about working out what button does what and how to change weapons, we have always had to swap and change buttons to the configuration we want, but, with Brothers in Arms it just flowed, straight into the game and we didn't even think about changing the controls, very impressed with that!
Obviously with the game being based on a true story, the storyline is top notch, the levels are challenging and in some cases a little different to what we have seen in previous WWII shooters but we did find the game started to get a little bit repetitive. BUT, and trust us, it is a big BUT, not only does the game have a true to life storyline, the in game characteristics are also true to life. At last we have a game that isn't scared to show a bit of emotion and make the characters show a bit of emotion. In previous WWII games such as Medal of Honour, if you heard any talking what so ever, it was usually in German. Well this time, there is almost a constant flow of conversation between all the characters, but incase you are expecting some jolly old Englishman accent asking for a cup of tea, you aren't going to get it! Brothers in Arms : Road to Hill 30 has proper conversation, the kind you would have with your mates if you had some Germans showering bombs and bullets at you, the first level has more swearing in it than a Saturday afternoon at the footy! A right touch!

Our Conclusions
Brothers in Arms : Road to Hill 30 is probably as true to life as possible at the moment, they haven’t cut back on anything from swearing to storyline to how much blood you can get out of the dead guy on the floor! Lots of gore and lots of foul language! The multiplayer mode is great for a laugh with your mates and does get quite involved; the single player missions are challenging but sometimes get a bit tedious. Altogether though, not a bad effort at all! We like it!
Overall Score: 7.5/10
Thanks to the guys at Ubisoft and Chris Swanson from Blokesonly.co.uk, they are working flat out to give you what you want!
