Darkwatch by Ubisoft
Available on PS2 and Xbox

A cross between Resident evil and Halo mixed in with a little bit of Blade (yes, we know blade is a movie!) It's a Zombie/Vampire FPS, seen them before, played them before, was Darkwatch going to add anything a little different?

Game Overview
First of all we will explain our concoction, Resident Evil because you have to shoot the zombies heads off to kill them, does this wind anyone else up? Because it drives us absolutely nuts! "I have shot you, DIE damn it!!!, oh no sorry we have to shoot you in the head!!!", ok now that's off of our chest, its got a bit of Blade in there because of the Vampire element to the game, and the fact that you play the part of a human who is turning into a Vampire. Then last but not least Halo because on more than one occasion you end up on some mode of transport shooting at ridiculous sized bad guys flying over you or the usually henchmen trying to race you and occasionally fire a shot or two!

One thing we have to point out about Darkwatch is the stunning graphics; it is quite a usual thing to have breath taking graphics in the cut scenes but for some reason Darkwatch's cut scenes really stood out for us. The in game graphics aren't to bad either, as a lot of the game is played in quite a dark environment imperfections are difficult to spot which definitely help it, you won't have any complaints about them though.

You play the part of a guy called Jericho who just wants to "rob" a train and get on with his life but things take a turn for the worse and he ends up being bitten by a Vampire and slowly turning into one himself, having to keep the blood levels up, you know the usual Vampire scenario.

Unfortunately we found that the single player story mode was a little uninspiring and it didn't really keep us engrossed in the game, occasionally finding that things weren't quite as simple as originally thought did give us a bit if entertainment for a while and just blowing Vampires into little bits was fun but eventually the novelty wore off and things became quite repetitive. If you are a fan of FPS then you should be able to pick Darkwatch up and just start playing, and will probably enjoy it.

The AI is pretty special and doesn't fall to far short of the likes of FarCry, however it is going to take something very special, Darkwatch doesn't quite have that something special but does give you one heck of a challenge with Gun slingers hiding behind headstones and being very sneaky, you will find yourself being shot at constantly but not actually being able to find out where it is coming from, so dieing and having to start again is quite frequent!

Our Conclusions
The game has very good graphics and the game itself is quite a good attempt at becoming a Timesplitters or Unreal Tournament, however it isn't quite there just yet but Ubisoft have a good title here and we would be very surprised if a sequel was not released which could just push it into that amazing FPS category. We wouldn't recommend this to non FPS fans but if you love to run around firing at anything in site then this is right up your street!

Overall Score: 7.5/10

Thanks to Ubisoft.
