Sega Superstars by SEGA
Available on PS2

The Superstars of SEGA all on one disk and all on your TV, and you get to join them with that incredible little invention they call the Eye Toy!

Game Overview
Whether you are a fan of Sonic, Virtua Fighter or Monkey Ball there is definitely going to be something for you in the energy packed game. There are 12 fantastic mini games where SEGA have managed to re create their most famous characters from over the years.

Really this game is just Eye toy: Play but with SEGA characters, but hey! That's gotta be good!! How different can SEGA make it? There can't be that many games you can create with a Camera that involves you waving your arms about like a prat! So we think what SEGA has done is a good idea and is bound to sell a fair few.

We did find that with the Virtua Fighter game it began to hurt after a while, the basic idea is to beat the heck out of one of the Virtua Fighter characters. But how can you do that when they aren't there? How can it hurt if you are not actually getting punched? Precisely! You are punching thin air, after a while, when you really start getting into it, your elbow really starts to hurt! Try it now throw about twenty full strength punches, making sure you stretch your arm to how you would when you are having a ruck outside the local nightclub. Hurts after a while doesn't it!

We also found that there wasn't much room for you too move about once you were in the game, ok, so you have your whole lounge to move about in but the buttons on the screen will be activated if you moved to far, it is quite hard to explain, you will see what we mean when you play it. We think that there may have been a problem with our eye toy but it didn't seem to be all that responsive and some games seemed to be a little bit to quick for the responsiveness of the camera, like we say it could have been a problem with our camera, tell us what its like for you, email address on the Games Review Homepage.

Some of the games we could play for hours on end, some we could only play for five minutes as they seemed a little but boring and went on for too long or it was like de ja vous, however the games we could play for hours were fantastic! Our personal favorite being Sonic where you run down the huge half pipes collecting coins and dodging enemies and bombs! That really is Top Bombing!

The novelty for the adults seeing themselves on TV through a mini camera is great and never seems to wear out but this is definitely a younger generation game, simply because they have more energy! Either that or we are just really unfit and lazy! We will let you decide on that one.

Our Conclusions
As with most SEGA games you expect them to reach a certain level of playability and enjoyment, you will definitely get both of them out of SEGA Superstars, and what we recommend to do to spruce up the boring games is, get a few of your finest mates round, a couple cases of the finest lager you can lay your hands on, get absolutely plastered and then switch it on! It is undoubtedly the funniest game in the world then!

Overall Score: 6/10

It’s an ingenious idea--take various snippets from hit Sega games, mix in the EyeToy and add people. The result, Sega Superstars, is an excellent party game that all the family can enjoy. Really. It features twelve minigames in all, each drawing inspiration from a Sega hit. Thus, the Sonic section demands a bRead more
