Game Overview
Motorstorm was probably the single reason why a lot of people opted to purchase a PS3, with its great graphics, excellent sound track and infectious gameplay it got a lot of people talking! Then you had Resistance Fall of Man as well which was a big hit with Playstation FPS fans but in the grand scheme of things we thought was a little bit over rated, so to us, the PS3 has ridden on the wave of success from Motorstorm and possibly the fact that it had a F1 title, well now we reckon PS3 sales will be boosted everywhere, not for the fact that they have released a 40gig version but for the fact that Heavenly Sword is here!
There was a lot of fuss made about Heavenly Sword in the run up to its release some people saying it was going to be a contender for game of the year others saying that it wasn't actually going to be all that it cracked up to be, mainly due to the fact that the demo in the PS Store wasn't all that great! Well, we are sorry to say that all those people who thought this game was going to be rubbish, JOG ON!
The storyline is impeccable, very thrilling, action packed and keeps you involved from start to finish, does very well at keeping you guessing and wanting to know what lies ahead for your character Nariko. To cut a long story short, your tribe were expecting a savior to be born in the shape of a male, however the prophesy was wrong and you (female) came into the world instead and a lot of your tribesman see it as somewhat of a bad thing. You are given the Heavenly Sword to protect from King Bohan, in doing so all hell breaks loose!
Graphically, Heavenly Sword looks fantastic at times but then other shots look absolutely terrible and very grainy. Narikos hair seems to have a life of its own which looks extremely strange when you are standing still doing nothing. Luckily though, the good graphics more than make up for the lack of effort put in elsewhere.
Gameplay unfortunately does get a little bit tedious at times as essentially it's just a button masher taking out enemy after enemy in glorious round house kicks and majestic sword play. Occasionally though certain levels pop up that vary the style of gameplay and make use of the Six Axis! Yes! The Six Axis, the component that replaced the rumble in the controller that people seem to forget about! You are usually required to throw or fire something at which point you actually take control of the object and guide it through the air using the motion sensing. Quite a nice little touch to be honest!

Our Conclusions
The game is pretty short and with no online play you'll struggle to go back to it for some time once you have completed the game. Good graphics outweigh the rubbish graphics, the voice acting is second to none and the mouths actually move like they would in real life which is so very rarely seen in games. Sony have produced a very good game but we have a feeling it may only appeal to people who can persist with repetitive gameplay, like us!!
Overall Score: 8/10
Thanks to Sony for sending us our first ever Sony title!
