Game Overview
Starting off with Homer having a kip in front of the TV, he begins to have a dream where he is in a world of chocolate and is being attacked by white chocolate rabbits who say things like "I did it with Marge", at which point you realize that, yes, you could let your kids play it to keep them quiet for a couple of hours but you'd much rather sit down and play it yourself, time to be a little bit selfish for once!
Bart wants to buy a new video game by the name of Grand Theft Scratchy (there are quite a few mickey takes of games and movies throughout the entire game). Marge catches him walking out of the video game store and confiscates the game from him as it is rated M, whilst kicking up stink, Bart stumbles across the instruction manual for none other than the Simpsons game and finds out that he and the rest of the family all have super powers, Bart can glide through the air with his cape, Homer can turn into a human wrecking ball, Lisa can use telekinesis and a Saxophone to stun her enemies and Marge is able to gather mobs of people together to fight battles for her with a megaphone.
The super powers aren't great but it's the kind of powers you have come to expect from the Simpsons over the years silly powers to take on silly missions. As with the level of humour, the same as you have come to expect from the cartoons, there is a level for the kids and a level for the adults, which means that the game is suitable to almost anyone with thumbs! You'll hear characters saying odd phrases as you run near them, some are just stupid others will get a giggle out of you...........for the first couple of times you hear them......after the hundredth time you'll be wanting to turn the volume down as they do get incredibly tedious.
The main hub of the game is in Springfield, after all these years you can now explore an artists impression of the town including the Church, Moes, Krusty Burger and of course the residence of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Around the town you'll find hundred of floating collectables, some easy to get others will require a little bit more thought and searching for. Bart collects Krusty stickers, Homer collects Duff bottle tops, Marge collects coupons and Lisa collects Malibu Stacey cards. There are 75 of each dotted about Springfield, you can quite easily get addicted to finding all of them rather than finding the big beam of light to take you to your next mission, on the 360 you'll get achievements for collecting them all, obviously no such luck with the PS3 version so there isn't so much of an incentive to collect them all.
The cut scenes look excellent, proper Simpsons graphics in HD that look superb, brilliant voice acting, well thought out scenes and scripts that'll make you chuckle to yourself and generally quite impressive, however when you enter the actual game, running around Springfield or taking part in the missions can look very shoddy at times, surprising seeing as though it's only cartoon characters, some of the detail washes out or disappears completely leaving the character with half a face. The physics to the game leave a big question mark, sometimes you'll find yourself falling off platforms but not actually falling, instead you'll float around in mid air whilst your character flaps around like a dazed duck! You aren't able to do anything but restart the level.

Our Conclusions
Lots of funny one liners throughout the game can get incredibly annoying, graphics could do with being a bit better in game but in terms of gameplay it's not a bad game to play. Solid platformer with different and amusing missions even if some of the special powers are a bit "stupid". We have read some terrible reviews of the Simpsons game which we think are a little harsh. Yes, it's nothing spectacular, but we found it quite enjoyable, good for people of all ages and all round fun with lots of in game variety.
Overall Score: 7/10
