Game Overview
We have to start off with how damn good this game looks! Already Sega are pushing the PSP to the limit, the graphics look absolutely brilliant and will amaze and astonish anyone who has doubts over how good the Sony PSP is going to be!
The main feature of Virtua Tennis is the World Tour single player mode, where as usual with these kinds of games you start by making your own character although with Virtua Tennis you make both a male and female character, who will both battle it out throughout competitions and tournaments with the best players around the world to become No.1! To be honest it does get a little bit tedious and we wouldn't recommend starting off with the World Tour as it is quite difficult and takes quite a long time.
The problem with Virtua Tennis is that it does take some time to get used to the controls, the new analogue controller on the PSP doesn't help matters, so you are probably best taking part in exhibition matches to get used to the controls, then try conquering the world!
One thing that we have to point out is the pause it takes before the umpire makes an announcement, it sounds worse than it actually is, but to be honest we are just trying too hard to find something wrong with a pretty pucker game! You can't have a review without a fault or two!
Actually saying that, there is one thing that we have noted has been mentioned in many reviews is that game sharing isn't enabled in Virtua Tennis, this basically means that to play multiplayer you have to have a cartridge each. Obviously this is a good thing for the developers because people will buy the game so they can play their mates but the problem with that is that Tennis isn't exactly the most popular sport in the world and we can't help but think that maybe some people won't mind missing out on a tennis game, no matter how good it is!

Our Conclusions
Virtua Tennis is visually impressive, and a very solid performance from Sega for a release title. Early signs are good for the PSP and things are looking good for the new Sony product with some top titles coming out! Virtua Tennis will probably fade away in a couple of months and not be talked about much at all but don't forget that it's there, we think you will be pleasantly surprised, and as it is a sports sim it's never the same game twice so there is hours and hours of lifespan out of this one!
Overall Score: 8.5/10
Thanks to Sega and Chris Swanson for making this review possible!
