Game Overview
First impressions of FIFA07 are incredibly good, the graphics are a lot nicer than it's horrible predecessor FIFA World Cup where everything looked like plaster scene and you can instantly tell that a little more effort has gone into how this game looks to the user.
The loading screen kick about with Ronaldinho is definitely something that should appear more in games, as it really does eliminate the boredom that comes with loading times. Normally we would now say something like, the loading times are dreadful and it takes ages, but because of this small, simple kick about mode we didn't notice how long it was taking to load the game, in our opinion that's job done by EA!
The top quality sound that comes with all EA Sports games is no let down, the commentary as usual gets a little annoying and repetitive but turning it off will emphasize the crowd noise which has been vastly improved this year, with crowds actually singing songs that relate to the team you are playing with i.e. Glory Glory Man Utd, a very nice touch indeed.
Gameplay online is where this game comes to life as the single player mode can be incredibly tedious and mind numbing as the CPU controlled teams don't seem to vary their style of play, but online you just don't know who you are going to play next, what team they will be using and what tactics they will set up with so every single game is different and also very challenging.
As you continue through the game you'll notice that you are unlocking very few achievements and this is something that is a huge let down with FIFA07. If you are looking for a game that you can nip through and get a few achievement points then FIFA is definitely not the game to be looking at, off the top of our head you need to "Win Man of Match for a Midfielder more than 50 times in Semi-professional difficulty", gives you 50 points! "Win 300 games in all competitions on any level difficulty." 300 games!!! When there are so many decent games out there it is highly unlikely 300 games will be completed in a hurry! Very much a let down the way the achievements have been setup but you can't have it all!
You are going to find a few niggling points that really let FIFA down throughout the game like that fact that you can pick the ball up on your own goal line and just run and run right to the other end of the pitch by holding LT+RT, very unrealistic and definitely something that needs looking at for 2008. The shooting does feel very random at times and you'll find yourself putting 6 yarders about 10 yards wide of the post or spooning it miles over the bar.

Our Conclusions
In conclusion FIFA is a definite let down in single player mode, in our opinion you have to have Xbox Live to play this game properly and get the most out of it, there are some niggly points like not having lower league teams in the 360 version but are available on the PS2 version (marketplace release to rinse more money from us we would imagine) but FIFA definitely holds it's own. Whether it's better than this year’s Pro Evolution 6 which wasn't fantastic either, we'll let you decide, for us though although FIFA07 is a good game we have to say that it hasn't been a great year for footy sims.
Overall Score: 7.5/10
