Game Overview
We at the BlokesOnly HQ were really looking forward to Timeshift. The good thing about gaming is allowing yourself to become immersed in a make believe world, play as your favorite super hero or sports star, drive the worlds fastest cars, fly fighter jets or go back in time and fight the war, but something that has never really been put to the test all that much is the ability to control time, this is probably why we were so excited about receiving Timeshift, and it wasn't long before it was placed in our 360 Elite's disk tray and being booted up!
Visually, the game looks stunning, from gun fire to human characteristics and the splashes of rain to huge futuristic robots destroying everything in it's path. At times, Timeshift can suffer from a little bit of slow down as the attention to detail and the amount going on at once its just too much (if that is possible). Even at those times though, it is only briefly and the game still looks superb.
The game is based around being able to control time, by holding down LB on your controller you can choose to rewind, slow down and even pause time. These "powers" combined with an arsenal of 9 weapons, all of which have 2 functions really do offer the player an awful lot of freedom and different ways to completely obliterate the enemy. But that's not the best bit! For us, the best part about being able to stop time is that you are able to run up to your enemies whilst they stand there looking a bit constipated and steel their gun! The time control bar runs out, the action kicks back in and Billy Big Ball isn't so big anymore as he has no gun!! Instead he cowers on the ground whilst you unload round after round in to his mates, with his gun! Brilliant!
Levels do take some going, they are broken up in to parts allowing you a bit of a breather as the action is pretty intense at times, the game also requires you to use your brain to work out how you are going to stop the hoard of enemies from blowing you away as you make your way around the next corner, so breaks in the gameplay are welcomed with open arms.
Single player is a substantial effort to complete and offers up quite a challenge especially in the harder difficulty modes, controlling time is easy to learn but very difficult to master and as you only get a limited amount of time to use one of the time functions you have to time it to perfection.
Obviously every game has it's downside and Timeshift is no different. Take away the time control functions and you are faced with yet another FPS game no different to FEAR, Prey or Clive Barkers Jericho, but because it has this time controlling feature it adds a little something to differentiate from the run of the mill FPS titles. Unfortunately, the developers haven't really dwelled on that one feature enough and it does become a little repetitive after a while. Another downer to Timeshift is the incredibly confusing and disjointed storyline; all we can do is touch on this though because we are still confused by it.

Our Conclusions
If you want a very pretty looking FPS with very varied online play to keep you going for hours and something a little bit different to the normal FPS games then Timeshift is most definitely the game for you. Don't expect an award winning storyline, do expect to be very confused and also expect to get a little bit anxious to just run around blowing anything and anyone away, still good fun though. It's definitely no Halo but it's a good game none the less.
Overall Score: 7.5/10
